The word grimoire comes from the root grammar, and is used to literally represent a grammar of magic, or workbook of information and techniques. The books or manuscripts known as grimoires were generally written in the period from the thirteenth to eighteenth century. The style of conjurations and practices found in the grimoires can be traced back to earlier works like the Greek Magickal Papyri (2nd century BCE – 5th century CE) and the Coptic Magickal Papyri (1st – 12th century CE). This small website is dedicated to promoting accurate information about the Grimoire Tradition, which is currently experiencing a surge of interest, after many years of neglect, brought on primarily by the work of authors and researchers such as Joseph Peterson, Stephen Skinner and David Rankine.

This website is dedicated to the classical Grimoire Tradition - which is a tradition which requires dedication, intelligence and a great deal of hard work. It is a tradition with a long history of practice and experimentation - and one which also yields excellent results for those who are both willing and able to fully dedicate themselves to the Work. The information here is provided as an introduction to the tradition, a recommended readinglist provides the dedicated student with a list of works from which to start their studies.

The Grimoire Tradition does not lend itself to comprehension by those who seek the instant gratification of the pop-culture generation of magic. Nor does it in our opinion provide anything but an armchair distraction for those who believe that magic is "all in your head". So if you are still curious, enjoy the few articles provided here. For every 5000 page views we receive we will add another five articles - so do share this site with others you think may be interested.
